Pistol Shrimp Attack Reaches 4000C: LENR in Nature? (mind2matter2reality)

The following comment was made by mind2matter2reality

Solar Hydrogen Trends makes a reference to Pistol Shrimp and asks the question “….what effects can come forward besides cavitation…..? ”

What do you guys think?

Below is a video of the pistol shrimp in action:

  • Obvious

What other than cavitation is required? Probably nothing.

  • Roland

    Fascinating, thanks Frank.

Do you wonder how long it’ll take to mechanically replicate this bit of shrimp physics, or is this ground zero for cavitation research?

It’s reminiscent of another bit of arcana; some folks think that humans first broke the ‘sound barrier’ in the 1950s, in point of fact the first example is lost in time with the invention of the whip.

The ‘crack’ of the whip is the tip going hyper-sonic.

    • Obvious

The (strongest) crack of a whip is a collapse of a cavitation bubble in air. Over 400 C has been measured, by vaporization of material contained in the tip, which can reside between two torus shaped cavitation bubbles formed (one on each side of the loop just ahead of the crack), which are rotated even faster as the tip is withdrawn, supersonic, which then sends a shockwave into the cavitation bubbles, first compressing, then exploding them.

Not to be pedantic but humans have never rode the tip of a whip, so no a whip doesn’t count as humans breaking the sound barrier. Humans actually first hit and possibly broke the sound barrier in the 1940’s during WWII with fighter planes in a dive. The planes broke up immediately as they were not designed to handle the stress of supersonic flight.

      • Roland

You’re not being pedantic; my somewhat facetious introduction of the whip in this context was intended to highlight the reframing of what once appeared to be a well understood phenomena in light of new knowledge, as Obvious subsequently demonstrates.

I do expect, as understanding of LENR expands, that we’ll come to recognize that the hints have been all around us and largely obscured by incorrect explanations.

      • Frechette

Some German pilots claimed that the ME 262, which was the first operational jet fighter plane, would break the sound barrier in a dive. They did not break up incidentally.

        • US_Citizen71

I have read similar but most accounts were second hand as not many ME 262 lived through the war to tell the tale. Most of what I was referring to came from accounts told by pilots who flew P-51’s and P-38’s and watched others dive and break up.

          • Frechette

Actually a number of ME-262 were shipped to the US as war booty to be evaluated at Wright Paterson. Also taken was the German surface to air missile known as Wasserfall. The Russian SAM-1 used against US bombers flying missions over North Vietnam was based on this German design. If you google Wasserfall you’ll get all the details. The German flying wing ( Nur Flugel) designed by the Horten brothers was the first stealth aircraft. The power plant consisted of two gas turbines built into the wing unlike the ME-262 configuration. It was also brought to the US and is now in possession of the Smithsonian Museum in DC. I’ve seen it in one of their storage hangars. Recently a version of it was reconstructed after the original and tested for its stealth capability by a US defense contractor at their radar test site.

          • US_Citizen71

Yes I know about all of the technological war booty brought back to the US after WWII forgot the word ‘pilots’ after ‘ME 262’ in the above post.

I think that if SHT had the goods, they would be selling hydrogen and making money. I ask anyone knowledgeable about their operation if they know how SHT finances their operation??? I realize that money is not everything, but to live in the real world and to increase their freedom (rather than having to take orders from stake holders), their ideal business model would be to include selling hydrogen as soon as possible. This would help their people pay for their mortgages and keep them from becoming dependent upon sharks. Are they doing this yet?

    • Gerard McEk

Imploding cavitation bubbels are suspect of LENR effects for a long time. Also gamma Ray’s have been detected. That LENR like effects take place herstel is plausibel. Interesting find Frank!

    • Alain Samoun

Euh… It’s not exactly the subject bachcole

  • Curbina

Cavitation is a so called “over unity” suspect since long. The invention called “hydrosonic pump” is claimed to be 2 times overunity to heat water by using a special rotor to induce cavitation in the circulating water. It has been subject to calorimetric analysis and foun to be at most 99% efficient, which is not bad, but not OU.

    • GreenWin

It seems “sonofusion” falls into this same category. Using acoustic cavitation to collapse gas bubbles creating fusion. Cavitation is a likely tangent to LENR. Though the hydrodynamic version has inherent heat transfer problems.
