Assuming the E-Cat SKL works as Rossi has claimed — that it creates electricity without the need to be powered by the grid — there is not doubt that the average person will be thinking, why not buy one or more of them for use at home and put an end to my power bills? And at the same time, why not sell some of my excess electricity generated by the SKL back to the grid, and make some money off it?
A question on the Journal of Nuclear Physics may give a little insight regarding Rossi’s thinking on this subject:

I would agree that tying the E-Cat SKL to the grid would require complicated authorizations and agreements with utilities and governments. I think that net metering, where you get paid back for electricity you feed into the grid, would quickly be reduced of eliminated if thousands of kilowatts of electricity were being put into the grid by SKL users.
We have also seen with home generated solar power that the grid can become overloaded if too much electricity is fed into the grid. Electricity grids have been designed to feed power one way – from generator to consumer, rather than the other way round.
I think that off-grid applications of the E-Cat SKL would be an easier route for Rossi to persue.
