‘Shock Results’ in Particle Physics threaten Standard Model

The BBC and other major news outlets are reporting today about experimental results which threaten the Standard Model of particle physics.

Experimenters Fermilab Collider Detector (CDF) in Illinois have measured the mass of the W Boson particle to be 0.1 % larger than what theory states it should be. Even though the difference is small, it is apparently extremely significant and could upend the laws of physics and change the way that scientists understand the universe.
