Since there has been a lot of discussion here about the electric grid, and how E-Cats could fit in with the grid, I thought this video might be interesting for readers. It is from the Electric Viking YouTube channel where host Sam Evans discusses a trend in Australia where it turns out that the need for baseload electricity generation (which is mainly from coal) is changing since there is so much rooftop solar being used in the country. Baseload plants usually operate continually, because they are difficult to turn on and off quickly.
During the daytime, solar is the cheapest way to generate electricity and outbids baseload generation which must then operate at a loss. With more batteries coming online which store excess solar power, the need for baseload further diminishes.
Now if you start adding E-Cats to the grid at a decent volume the picture could change again dramatically since E-Cats provide electricity round the clock and can presumably be turned on and off easily to match demand.
