Donut Lab Releases Third Party Test Results of its Solid-State Battery

I haven’t followed this topic very closely, but I have been aware of the claims by the Finnish Company Donut Lab about its solid-state battery. Donut claims they have developed a battery with properties superior to lithium-ion batteries. They claim an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and 100,000 charge cycles along with very high charging speed.

There has been a lot of skepticism about Donut Lab’s claims from industry experts and observers, and in response, the company has launched a website https://idonutbelieve.com/ where they are publishing the results of a series of third party testing carried out by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

The first third party report was a Fast Charge Performance Test. The report concludes:

Under the specified test conditions, the cell was successfully charged at 5C for more than 9
minutes, and 100 % of the charged capacity was available during the subsequent discharge. The
cell was also successfully charged at 11C for more than 3 minutes, with 98.4–99.6 % of the
charged capacity available after a full charge.

More test results are scheduled to be released over the coming weeks.

In the video below, Donut Lab CEO and Co-founder Marko Lehtimaki explains how the company has decided to deal with the skepticism and how and why they are releasing the the third party testing resuts.
