A number of readers have brought up the topic of AI generated comments on E-Cat World. I think it is time to make some guidelines on the topic.
AI has proved in certain circumstances to be a useful tool for scientific and historical research. However, it can sometimes be just a computer-generated scraping of various documents and websites and not really represent original thinking.
AI can be useful for summarizing existing materials, but I think that original thinking and personal insight based on research, education and experience have been the driving force behind most of the useful discoveries and breakthroughs.
Plus, AI content can be very tedious to read, and I suspect most people don’t read large chunks of AI content, and just tune out.
So, as a general rule, I would make the following request regarding AI comments.
1. In general, be considerate of other readers who generally don’t want to read a lot of AI-generated content.
2. Summarize findings from AI engines in your own words.
3. Don’t copy and paste large sections of AI generated content.
4. If you do quote AI content, use short sections and put it in quotation marks. Also indicate which AI tool you used, and the prompt you used.
