Helion Energy Raises $500 Million, Expects to Show Net Electricity from Fusion in 2024

Thanks to Vibrator! for posting in the Always On thread about an announcement from Helion Energy, a US company developing fusion energy, that they have raised $500 million, and $1.7 billion in future commitments if certain targets are met.

Helion Energy’s website explains that its fusion reactor employs a “pulsed non-ignition fusion system”, and uses deuterium and helium-3 (D-³He) as fuel. Instead of creating heat to drive steam turbines, Helion states: “Our system is built to directly recover electricity. Just like regenerative braking in an electric car, our system is built to recover all unused and new electromagnetic energy efficiently.”
